Gifts For A Handyman

Replace his old tools with upgraded versions.

There is a multitude of useful gifts available for the home or professional handyman. Do a little bit of research to find out the tools and supplies relevant to his favorite handyman jobs and for the handyman who already has everything he needs, consider a humorous gift that brings a smile to his face long after the special event.

Technology

The handyman may be good at repairs, but if he cannot find the supply store or next job, it does not benefit anyone. For the man who refuses to ask for directions, consider a GPS system for the work van or home vehicle. If the jobs are only done at home, upgrade tools, such as his measuring tape, with a laser model to help him save time. Newer model saws come with digital readouts to ensure cutting accuracy and digital accuracy-checking devices make sure everything is precisely aligned. (See Reference 1.)

Health

Being a handyman sometimes means exposure to large amounts of dust and pollutants. The perfect gift may be one that shows you care. Air purification devices are available to filter large amounts of air in a short period of time. Heavy-duty vacuum systems keep the work area clean and free from fire risks. Some portable wet and dry vacuums are strong enough to suck up tools left on the ground. A good first aid kit not only helps with on-the-job injuries but some can also be engraved to display a personal message. If his safety glasses are bulky and scratched up, consider upgrading them to more stylish safety glasses that resemble sunglasses and have breakaway cords. If only as a joke, consider untraditional bandages that work the same but come in shapes of tools, bacon and other humorous designs. (See Reference 2.)

Novelty

For the handyman that appreciates a good joke, consider one of the many novelty T-shirts designed to display humorous messages and images. Make the drive to the hardware store a little more entertaining with a bobblehead made to look like him. Bobbleheads can be custom-made to resemble a picture. Options for these toys include custom clothing, hairstyles and glasses. At the end of the day, let him take off his tool belt to throw on the six-pack beer belt. If all options have been exhausted, give him a 14-inch stuffed doll that looks just like him. Custom dolls are available to resemble a supplied picture with customizable clothing for a humorous gift to display in the shop. (See Reference 3.)

Miscellaneous

For the handyman that seems to have everything that he needs, give him something to read. There are multitudes of magazine and online subscriptions that focus on home improvements, from plumbing to woodworking. It may just be the inspiration for a new project for which he has been searching. If no appropriate gift idea comes to mind despite your best efforts, do not disregard gift certificates. Most hardware stores have gift certificates available for purchase to allow him to pick out his own supplies. (See Reference 4.)
