Recycle Cooking Grease

Recycle Cooking Grease

You can recycle your used cooking grease to make products that range from biodiesel fuel to candle tallow. Most local communities have recycling centers available to accept your donation of used grease. You can find information online about the centers in your area.

Instructions

1. Ensure that your cooking grease is completely cool when you recycle it. If you attempt to recycle cooking grease that's still hot, you may melt the container you use to dispose of the grease or you may burn yourself.

2. Strain the cooking grease as you pour it into a container to remove any foreign matter. Use a dry, old milk carton or dry, glass jar to store your grease. The container you choose should have a screw top.

3. Separate your cooking oil from other types of oil. Motor oil is considered a hazardous material and you must recycle it at a facility specifically designed to accept this type of oil.

4. Locate a recycling center in your area at Earth911. This website lists several categories for local recycling facilities. Enter "cooking grease" in the first search field at the top of the page, enter your zip code in the next field and then click "Go" to find a facility near you.
