Flat Iron Naturally Thinning Hair

Give your hair volume before straightening it.

Flat ironing your hair will give it a glossy, sleek and super straight look. But it can also make your hair appear thinner than it already is. If you have naturally thinning hair, simply flat ironing it will make it look even finer. To prevent this, there are a few steps to do before flat ironing your hair to make your hair both straight but also full of body. For best results, always use a flat iron with ceramic plates which are less damaging to your hair.

Instructions

1. Wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo to help add height and body to your hair. Because thin hair is already fine, there is no need to add conditioner before flat ironing it.

2. Towel dry your hair until it is slightly damp. Apply a half dollar-sized drop of mousse to your hair. This will also add body and texture to your thinning hair.

3. Blow dry your hair upside down. Once your hair is dry, flip your head back over, and dry the top layers of your hair using a large round brush. For added volume, use a boar's hair brush.

4. Turn on your flat iron to the lowest setting. A super hot flat iron will damage your hair further.

5. Section off a part of your hair. Clamp the flat iron around the section, then--slowly--pull the iron down that section of hair. Continue to do this until your entire head is flat ironed. For a more voluminous look, only flat iron the top section of your hair.
