Need a job? Wal-Mart is probably hiring! Wal-Mart is a great company to work for and has a lot to offer. Besides stores, there are distribution centers, Neighborhood Markets, international opportunities and jobs at the Home Office in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Instructions
1. The first step in getting a job is applying. Stores and Distribution Centers have hiring kiosks. You can fill out an application electronically. If you are looking for a job at the Home Office or beyond, start at walmart.com and click careers. Even better, if you know someone at the Home Office, pass your resume on to them. Networking is much more effective at obtaining a job than going through a web site.
2. If you get called for an interview do your research. Read about the company's history and Sam Walton. Try to learn as much as possible about their business and the department you want to work in. Read Sam Walton's biography, Made in America.
3. Write down questions you want to ask before you go to your interview. Employers always ask if you have any questions, be prepared. Ask about the company culture, benefits, the department, work hours, community involvement. Base some of your questions on the research you have done. Ask about the 3 Basic Beliefs.
4. Dress up. A good rule is to always dress one level above the job you want. If you are interviewing at the Home Office you should probably wear a suit. If you are interviewing in a store or distribution center, slacks and a button down (maybe throw in a tie) will work for a guy. For a girl slacks or knee-length or longer skirt and blouse are appropriate. Wal-Mart tends to be a conservative company. Keep that in mind when dressing.
5. As soon as you arrive home from your interview send a thank you note. In this day and age, an email note is perfectly okay. They may make their decisions before the mail gets there anyway. If you were interviewed by multiple people, send an original thank you to each one. Don't write the exact same message to each person.
