Find A Photography Agent To Sell Photos

Find a Photography Agent to Sell Photos

Making a name for yourself in the world of photography can be a challenge. Getting regular assignments with top fashion magazines or other slick, glossy big-name magazines can require more than just photographic talent. Approaching some of the bigger magazines may require an agent to act upon your behalf. There are many photography agencies available, but to find representation with one, you'll need to demonstrate your ability to take high-quality photographs the agency feels it can market. If you can demonstrate this ability on a regular basis, you may be able to secure an agent to help take your photography career to a professional level.

Instructions

1. Put together a portfolio. It's a good idea to have both a physical portfolio and an online portfolio of your work, along with a professional bio and resume that includes your work experience as a photographer. Include a selection of your best work in your physical portfolio. Your online portfolio can include all of your work.

2. Prepare an agency query letter. The letter should be brief. Introduce yourself, give a brief overview of your photographic experience, and stat the purpose of the letter--to secure agency representation for your work. Close the letter by thanking the agent for considering your work. Include your contact information in the letter.

3. Consult a database of agencies that represent photographers. Send a query letter to any agency that looks as if it will be a good fit for you. If the agency listing gives guidelines for submitting work for consideration, follow those guidelines. If there are no guidelines, revise your query letter by inquiring about submission guidelines.

4. Wait for a response. Three to four months isn't an uncommon period of time to wait. If you have not heard anything by then, write a follow-up letter stating that you sent a query regarding representation and that you're checking on the status of the query.
