Kia'S 2 0l Gdi Turbo Engine Specs

Kia's 2.0L GDI Turbo Engine Specs

Hyundai, which owns Kia, has introduced a turbocharged version of its Theta II engine family. The Theta engine family originated as a world engine project among Hyundai-Kia, Chrysler and Mitsubishi, and is available in a variety of displacements.

2.0 GDI Turbo Specifications

The 2.0-liter GDI (gasoline direct injection) turbo engine is an all-aluminum engine with continuously variable valve timing, and a dual-scroll turbocharger. The dual-scroll design reduces turbo lag. In the 2011 Sonata, this motor develops 274 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, and 269 pound-feet of torque from 1,800 to 4,500 rpm. Peak torque is 17 lbs. of boost.

As the motor is a development project among multiple manufacturers, the block is similar to the 411BT engine found in the Mitsubishi Evolution X.

2.0 GDI Turbo Applications

The 2.0 GDI turbo motor is currently offered in the 2011 Hyundai Sonata, the 2012 Kia Sportage and the 2012 Kia Optima in the full 274-horsepower version.

The motor also sees duty in the current Hyundai Genesis coupe, where it makes 210 horsepower and 223 pound-feet of torque.

Future Applications

It seems likely that the 2.0 GDI turbo engine will see widespread use in the Hyundai and Kia lineup. It is likely the 274-horsepower version will be placed in the Genesis Coupe, and that the Kia Koup will receive a version of the motor as well.
