Troubleshoot Ti84 Graphing Calculator

The TI-84 Plus is a graphing calculator manufactured by Texas Instruments. With a 15 megahertz processor, 24 kilobytes of RAM memory and 1.5 megabytes of Flash ROM, the TI-84 sounds more like a minicomputer than a calculator. Over time, you may notice a few bugs in your calculator. The problem could be hardware related or simply a problem with the settings. A quick troubleshoot of the most common issues with the TI-84 may bring your calculator back to working condition.

Instructions

1. Replace the batteries with new AAA batteries. Remove the battery cover on the back cover. Remove the four AAA batteries. Underneath these batteries, there is a backup button cell battery. Replace the button cell battery. Replace the four AAA batteries. Check your calculator.

2. Check the display settings on the calculator. Press the "On" key. If your screen appears blank or the digits appear too light, press the "2nd" key and then press and hold the blue arrow up key. If your screen appears black or the digits appear too dark, press the "2nd" key and then press and hold the blue arrow down key.

3. Check your zoom settings if you are having problems graphing an equation. Press the "Y=" key and input your equation. Hit the "Graph" key. Press the "Zoom" key. Select the option "ZoomFit." This displays the graph of your equation no matter how large your values.

4. Turn on your grid settings if your graph is displayed with no tick marks. Press the "2nd" key and then press "Format." Scroll down to the option "GridOff" and "GridOn." Highlight "GridOn." Press "Clear."

5. Review any error messages displayed by your TI-84 Plus. For instance, a "Syntax" error means the equation you inputted can't be solved. Recheck your values. An "Invalid Dim" error means that the values you inputted for your graph, scatter plot, list or matrix isn't even. Recheck the dimension of your values. If you are constructing a list, ensure you input a y value for every x value.

6. Reset your calculator to the default settings. Press the "2nd" key and then the "+" key. Scroll down to the option "Reset" and press "Enter." Choose the option, "Defaults." Press "Enter."
