Instructions
Build a Rock Fountain
1. If building a rock fountain with an in-ground base, begin by digging a hole the size and shape of the fountain base or basin. If building an above-ground fountain, clear the ground and level it. Place the pond liner or fountain basin on the prepared site.
2. Following the manufacturer's specifications, install the pump, center fountain pipe and wiring. Make sure the center fountain pipe is well-secured so that a shifting of rocks or falls won't dislodge it. Place the pump in a safe location as well.
3. Using the natural shape of the rocks, carefully stack them around the center fountain pipe. You can stack the rocks in just about any shape you want, such as in a pyramid, square wall or round wall. Start with a solid base of rocks that sit flat and secure on the ground. Place them just touching each other, and then stack another row on top. Take your time, finding the rocks that fit best together. After a little trial and error, you will begin to see the rock shapes that fit best together and the process will go faster.
4. Fill the fountain with water and turn it on. See if the water flows over the rocks and into the basin the way you want. If not, adjust the rocks until you have the type of flow you want.
