Portable "sawhorse" signs can be used effectively when advertising any business.
Portable signage is a rather important aspect when running any business where operations are portable. This might include roadside farmers markets, flea markets, fruit stands and food vendor stands. Portable signage needs to provide a reasonably large surface on which the sign text is painted so it is easily visible to people driving past the point of operations. Such signs also should have some weight to prevent wind from blowing them over.
Instructions
1. Set the sawhorse on a flat, level surface, with one set of legs touching against a wall to provide stability.
2. Lean a sheet of plywood against the front side of the sawhorse lengthwise (not on one of the ends of the sawhorse) so the horizontal length is 8 feet from left to right, and the height of the sign is 4 feet tall. Make sure the sawhorse is in the center behind the plywood sheet.
3. Drill two 1/2-inch holes through the plywood and the top bar of the sawhorse. The holes should be drilled so they are about 4 inches in from each end of the sawhorse. The easiest way to ensure the holes are lined up correctly, centered in a neat fashion, is to drill from the sawhorse side continuing until the drill bit goes completely through the plywood on the other side. This method will require that the side with the plywood is against a wall for stability.
4. Insert a bolt into each of the holes so the heads of the bolts are on the plywood side, and the washers and nuts will be on the sawhorse side. Install lock washers and nuts and hand-tighten the nuts.
5. Paint the plywood edges and background with paint colors of your choice, depending on the visual effect desired. Allow to dry 24 - 48 hours.
6. Paint on the art, graphics and text of the sign using desired paint colors. For a more professional appearance, use stencils as guides when painting text onto the portable sign. Allow to dry for at least 48 hours before using the sign at the business location.
7. Set up the sign so it is facing the majority of traffic flow on the road so it is easily seen by all who pass by the location, whether on foot or by automobile.
