Get Gps Coordinates From Google Maps

Find GPS coordinates with Google Maps.

If you need to find coordinates for a location to enter in your GPS system, you can use Google Maps. It isn't as simple as clicking a "Coordinates" button or mousing over a location on a map to find the coordinates, but you can find the coordinates if you know what to look for. You only need to have the address of a location or name of a landmark on hand to get started.

Instructions

1. Go to Google Maps and locate the search bar at the top of the page. You can search maps by address or landmark.

2. Enter the location address or landmark you want to obtain geographic coordinates for in the search bar. Click "Search Maps" after you enter the location. The location will be displayed in a map.

3. Center the map if needed. If you want to find the coordinates for a place on a map near the location or landmark you searched for, right-click over that spot on the map and select "Center map here" from the list of options.

4. Look at the map options located over the map types to the right of the page. Click "Link" from the options. A URL will be displayed that contains the coordinates.

5. Locate the coordinates in the link. The coordinates follow the location. For example, if you searched for the Statue of Liberty, the link would show up as:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=statue+of+liberty&sll=34.734956,-80.686426&sspn=0.003994,0.010568&ie=UTF8&hq=Statue+of+Liberty&hnear=Statue+of+Liberty,+New+York&ll=40.695152,-74.044676&spn=0.029479,0.084543&z=14&iwloc=A

6. Write down the coordinates in the link. In this example, the coordinates are "40.695152" and "-74.044676." You are now ready to enter the coordinates in your GPS so you can find driving directions.
