Troubleshooting An Omni 3200

Terminal Display Shows Gibberish

Begin by checking the power connections as well as all other plugs. If the telephone line is not properly connected this problem can result, so check the phone line at both ends. Replace the battery with another of the same model in case it's been recharged one time too many. Enter system mode and press 4. This makes the Omni 3200 go through a simple series of diagnostics. The system will reboot and should display correctly afterward. If it does not, a VeriFone representative will need to be contacted for further assistance and/or repair.

Paper is Jammed in the Printer Feeder

Begin by removing the plastic printer cover on the Omni 3200 and raising the lever on the right hand side of the paper-roll. This will allow the roll to move freely. Pull the paper past the point of the jam free and cut the excess paper off. You may need to back up the roll and re-thread the paper through the printer if the jam is particularly bad. Once the paper is re-seated, push the lever back down and replace the protective cover. If the jamming occurs frequently then you may need to use a higher quality thermal paper.

Terminal Won't Complete Transactions

First set the Omni 3200 into "test" mode and try ringing the transaction again using a different credit card to make sure that it's not just a defective credit card's magnetic strip causing the problem. Disconnect the telephone line from the Omni 3200 and connect a regular telephone onto the line, then try to make a phone call. If you're successful, then the phone line is functioning properly. If not, the phone line isn't working right and the phone company should be called. If the reader won't recognize any credit card at all by swiping them, try entering the card number using the touch pad. If the touch pad works, then the card reader isn't working properly. If the touch pad doesn't work either, then it's a software error of some kind and a VeriFone representative should be contacted.
