Prevent Software Theft Or Piracy

Protect your software by monitoring torrent sites for illegal copy distribution.

Software development takes a substantial amount of money and work hours; software piracy is extremely damaging to the value of your finished product, as well as the value of your intellectual property. You can implement multiple precautions and safety measures to not only ensure the value of your software investment, but also to protect the intellectual property your entity developed while producing the software.

Instructions

1. Place a code key on your software that must be entered upon an install. Code keys provide a significant amount of protection because of their high level of encryption. Additionally, code keys lock the program so that no other computer can install your software after you use the code key.

2. Require users to register with your company to be able to use the software. An Internet or call-based registration system allows you to monitor who possesses legal versions of your software. You can request that users verify and register their software by providing you the serial number of their copy.

3. Create an open source, or free version, of your software to prevent the theft or piracy of your product. Individuals are less inclined to steal material that they can acquire at no cost over the internet. Also, if your company offers an open source version of the software with less features, you can gain valuable insight as to what customer needs are based on the modifications made to the software.
