Make A Magnetic Whiteboard

Instead of cluttering up the refrigerator, you can paint a magnetic whiteboard on any wall.

Whiteboards and magnet boards are practically essential items for organization in a home. Typically, you buy one or the other and find a place to hang it. Now, with advances in paint, you can have both items in one and paint the board right onto the perfect wall for it. This all-in-one organizational center is easy to make at home with just a few supplies.

Instructions

1. Decide where you'd like the board and draw the outline on the wall using a measuring tape and straight edge.

2. Use painter's tape to outline the area.

3. Make sure you have a clean, unblemished surface on which to paint. Wash the wall with a rag and mild detergent. Allow the wall to dry. Add joint compound to fill any holes or cracks. Sand the surface so it's smooth and dust the residue off with a dry cloth.

4. Open the can of magnetic paint and stir it for 10 minutes. When the paint is a consistent color, it's ready to use.

5. Read the manufacturer's instructions on how many coats of paint to apply to the wall. Typically you'll need at least two coats for the magnets to work effectively. Allow the paint to dry between each coat.

6. Apply whiteboard paint when the magnetic paint is dry. Read the manufacturer's instructions on how many coats of paint to apply to the wall. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly.

7. Trim your board outline with a wooden frame, rope, ribbon or even decals. After sufficient drying time, your board is ready for magnets and dry erase markers.
