Replace The Water Inlet Valve On A Ge Profile Refrigerator

Replaceing the water inlet valve is a good way to get your icemaker working again.

The GE Profile refrigerator uses a water inlet valve to connect the ice maker to the water supply line coming into the refrigerator. If you find water coming from the back of your refrigerator, you might have a leak in your water inlet valve. When the water inlet valve isn't working properly, your first instinct could be to call a repairman. You don't have to employ a technician to come take care of the problem. You can do it yourself.

Instructions

1. Pull the GE Profile refrigerator away from the wall and look to the bottom of the unit for where the water supply line meets the back of the refrigerator. This is the water inlet valve.

2. Turn the water supply line off by closing the shutoff valve. Turn the water supply line valve counterclockwise to shutoff the incoming water. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the back panel cover onto the back of the GE Profile refrigerator.

3. Use a pipe wrench to loosen the nut on the inside of the water inlet valve. Loosen the nut until you ware able to take it off of the water inlet valve. Disconnect the water supply line from the inlet valve.

4. Use your screwdriver to remove the screws holding the metal bracket to the inside casing. This metal bracket is used to hold the water inlet valve to the GE Profile refrigerator. Pull the inlet valve off of the refrigerator and take the tubing off of the outlet port.

5. Use a pair of pliers to take the wires off of the inlet valve. Discard the old inlet valve and connect your new one. Replace the metal wires on the valve and then reconnect the tubing going to the outlet port. Reattach the metal bracket and then reconnect the water supply line.

6. Tighten the nut so it is secure. Put the back panel cover back onto the back of your GE Profile refrigerator. Open the water line and push the refrigerator back into place.
