Tax fraud crimes may be punishable by a jail sentence.
Tax fraud could take on many forms. In fact, tax fraud can be difficult to identify, let alone prosecute. Nonetheless, one of the most effective ways the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) prosecutes this crime is by investigating various "tips" reported by the public. One IRS agency that plays a vital role in this struggle is Criminal Investigation (CI). Headquartered in Washington, DC, the agency, through its special agents, investigates suspected crimes that violate the Internal Revenue Code.
