When we finish with a bottle of a soda or a jug of milk, we send the plastic bottle on to greener pastures via the recycle bin. You can recycle plastic bottles yourself. Rinse them out and transform them into a number of handy objects.
Instructions
1. Make boot trees to keep boot tops from crumpling. Slide an empty 1-liter into an old sock and then insert the bottle into the top of each boot.
2. Conserve water by placing a 1-liter soda bottle in the tank of an older toilet. Fill the bottle with water and set it in the tank to cut down on the amount of water needed for each flush.
3. Fashion a toy carry-all for small blocks or erector-set pieces. Use a clean gallon jug and cut a hole in the side opposite the handle. Make storage bins for craft materials by using the bottom portions of gallon container.
4. Store plastic grocery sacks. Remove the bottom and top of a 2-liter soda bottle and mount it, narrow end down, inside a closet door, cupboard or pantry. Use washers under the screw heads so the screws don't tear the bags. Fill the container with plastic grocery bags, one at a time. Use the same method to make a twine dispenser.
5. Be prepared for a winter emergency. Fill two 1-gallon jugs with sand or kitty litter and tuck them into the trunk of the car. Pour under the wheels of the car to give added traction on a slippery road.
6. Fill 1-liter soda bottles with water, freeze them and use them in the picnic cooler. Fill gallon jugs with water to take up space in a freezer to use less energy and save money on the electric bill.
