Recalibrate A Shredder

Recalibrate a paper shredder to extend its life.


Paper shredders are used for business and personal purposes, such as shredding important financial documents to protect your identity. Over time, a paper shredder can jam up or stop effectively shredding papers. Recalibrating a shredder will extend its life and save you money on purchasing a new one. Recalibrating a paper shredder is easy and takes a few minutes to complete.


Instructions


1. Unplug the paper shredder and place it on a stable surface. Pull the media guide upward to pop it out of place. This is located at the paper feeder's entryway.


2. Remove the screws from the paper-feeding area with the Phillips screwdriver. Pull back the guides to reveal the sensor, and wipe it clean with a moist cloth.


3. Replace the guides over the sensor and screw in the two screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Press the media guide back down until it pops into place. Plug the shredder in and power it on. Shred a piece of paper to make sure it is working properly.


4. Spray the paper-shredder oil onto the cutters with two or three sweeps across the cutters. Place the shredder in reverse mode and hold down the "Feed" button. Let it run for three or four seconds. Place the shredder back into forward mode and hold down the "Feed" button.Let it run for three or four seconds. Repeat to let the paper- shredder oil work through the cutters.
