Your discards could be someone's treasure.
If the personal items in your house have accumulated over a span of several years, it is likely you have enough items to set up a seller web page or online store. Setting up a web page is a simple and practical way to get organized and get rid of things you don't need. Some people find they have a knack for online commerce and further expand their business. Like any business venture, the more you learn the more successful you likely will be.
Instructions
1. Organize the personal items you want to sell and decide which eCommerce provider is right for you. Some providers, such as eBay are better for a wide variety of items, promoting an "online yard sale" feel while other providers will be more focused on a business niche.
2. Choose a name for your site. This is one of the most important aspects of any business venture. It is the first impression you give to prospective customers.
3. Set up an account with an eCommerce provider such as GoDaddy, ProStores or Yahoo!Small Business. These hosts will allow you to sell any items you wish, while tracking sales and customer trends; learning what items people click on will let you know what items are getting the most attention.
4. Take clear pictures of the items you plan to list for sale. Buying online is a very visual process and customers are more likely to buy something if it is clean-looking and well lit in the photo. Take several pictures of each and take the time to crop them and increase contrast and brightness if you have to. Putting your best picture forward is more likely to make sales.
