Report Food Stamp Fraud in Texas
When an individual receives food stamps, the stamps are supposed to be used to buy groceries for the household receiving the stamps. If the stamps are used for any other purpose, it constitutes fraud. The Office of the Inspector General is the agency responsible for investigating food stamp fraud in the state of Texas. There are two ways you can report the fraud: via the Internet or over the telephone.
Instructions
1. Visit the official website for the Texas Office of the Inspector General, which is listed in the Resources section of this article.
2. Click the "Reporting Waste, Abuse, & Fraud" link that is located on the left-hand side of the page.
3. Select the link labeled "Click Here To File Reports Online."
4. Click the "Go To Part 1" button that is located at the bottom of the page. Complete the online form by entering all of the details surrounding the fraud, including the name of the parties involved. After submitting the online form, be sure to write down the reference number and maintain it for your own records.
5. Telephone the Office of the Inspector General at 800-436-6184 to report the food stamp fraud, if you don't want to report it online. By calling this hotline number, a live representative will document your allegations of food stamp fraud. The hours of hotline operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CST.
