Stacks of sea containers at the docks.
Sea containers are large metal storage boxes that are typically available in 20-foot and 40-foot varieties, and are available for rent and delivery. These large boxes are crane-lifted from the dock and stacked onto boats for international shipping. Storage companies will rent a sea container and bring it to you so that it can be filled at your own pace. Once the rented sea container is filled, it can be loaded onto a truck for long term-storage or transport.
Instructions
1. Research storage facilities, construction rental and international shipping companies in your local area using the Yellow Pages or a search engine.
2. Call any of the companies that list "sea containers" or "storage containers" as available for rental. Ask about the dimensions of their available containers and get a pricing quote for the rental period you desire that includes all delivery and pickup fees.
3. Measure the flat area where the sea container will be delivered and make sure you have enough space.
4. Contact the company that offered the best deal for the sea container during the period of time you need to rent it. Set up an appointment for the delivery or visit their offices to review the rental agreement.
5. Read the rental agreement closely before signing. Most container rentals are for a minimum of three months, and penalties may be incurred for any portion of the contract.
