Selling items in person is quite an endeavor. You have to find a physical location where you can sell, pay any rental fees, transport your items to the location, and then haggle with customers. You can avoid all that trouble by setting up a web page to sell your items instead. A 2010 Pew Research survey found that about 58 percent of Americans shop online. Numerous online Web services provide you with the services and tools you need to set up your own online store.
Instructions
1. Create a Web page to sell items using Free Webstore. This service allows you to set up an e-commerce website for free without limitations on the web bandwidth you can use each month. You can only add a certain number of products to your store for free -- pay a monthly fee if you want to add more. The service does not require you to install any software programs on your computer. Find a store format you like and start uploading your product images and descriptions.
2. Develop a Web store using tool offered by Create My Webstore. Manage the store and your account, including orders you've received, online from your Web browser. Go through the "To Do Checklist" to set up your store. Items include "Add your products" and "Purchase custom domain name." When finished, publish the store online to start accepting sales. Try out the service first then pay to continue to publish your store online.
3. Use CoffeeCup's Shopping Car Creator software to create a Web-based store. Download the software program to your computer for use. Upload product information (including images, prices and text descriptions) with a drag-and-drop tool, select a theme and preview the store. When you're finished, upload everything online to your Web server directly from the program.
