If it's your turn to update your pen pals, you want to send off a quick message to family members or store-bought postcards are just feeling too generic for you, you can design your own postcards for free on your computer. Your computer's installation came with a basic graphics program called Paint, which allows you to do some sketching and add text to postcards, all with just a couple quick clicks in the program. Let your recipients know you wish "they were here" by designing your own postcards free with Paint.
Instructions
1. Open the Paint software program on your computer, click "Image" and select "Attributes." Type in the dimensions for your postcard; for a standard mailable postcard, type dimensions of 6 inches by 4 inches and click the "OK" button.
2. Click the "Paintbrush" tool, select the small round brush head and a paint color from the "Color Picker" at the bottom of the screen. Draw the outline of an image, such as a palm tree, high rise building or local monument. Click the "Paint Bucket" tool, then click inside the image, which fills with color.
3. Click the "Pencil" tool and a new paint color, then add accents and other designs to the postcard.
4. Click the "Text" tool, which looks like an "A." Select a font and size, then click inside the white space of the postcard box. Type the message for the postcard, such as "Wish You Were Here," "Having a Fabulous Time," "Catch Our Band's Next Gig" or "Sale on Yarn this Saturday."
5. Give the postcard an optional colored background by clicking the "Paint Bucket" tool, choosing a new paint color that hasn't yet been used on the card and clicking on a piece of white space on the postcard. The entire white space will fill in with the new color.
