Planning golf outings is part of an outing planners workday.
The job demands of an outing planner are similar to those of an event planner. Outing planners tend to specialize, however, in coordinating corporate events, such as golf outings, corporate retreats and team-building activities.
Job Demands
Outing planners spend their time organizing outing itineraries for groups of all sizes. The job usually involves sales, administration, problem solving, client service and budgeting. Liaising and negotiating with vendors is also an integral part of this work.
Work Environment
Outing planners spend much of their time in an office using the phone and email to communicate with clients, coworkers and vendors. During outings, they are outside the office ensuring things run smoothly.
Personality
Outing planners need to be detail-oriented, initiative-taking multi-taskers. Additionally, they should be diplomatic and friendly. Assertiveness and independence are also valued, since they sell and negotiate.
Requirements
Experience in event planning and hospitality is generally sought for outing planners. A college degree is not required.
Pay
As of January 2010, the average salary for an event planner, which is a comparable job to outing planner, was $44,000. This is according to indeed.com.
