Got enough cards? Call to have the offers stopped.
Unsolicited credit card offers can clog your mailbox and waste paper. The Federal Trade Commission offers ways to remove your name from promotional lists, reducing your unwanted mail from credit card companies. You can also call an opt-out number and have your name directly removed from all credit card offer mailing lists.
Instructions
1. Call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (567-8688), which is the opt-out phone number for the major credit bureaus. Calling the number will stop credit card companies from sending you unsolicited offers for five years.
2. Enter your full name, social security number and telephone number when prompted. Your personal information is secure. Hang up when prompted. You will cease receiving credit card offers within 30 days.
3. Send a letter to the three major credit bureaus stating that you do not allow your personal information to be shared with credit companies with whom you do not have a current account. In the letter, include your name, social security number, date of birth and addresses for the last six months. State that you want your name taken off any promotional or marketing lists.
